*** The Whyis and Whereforeis of Acid/Alkaline Imbalances - Part 2 ***
(From Content Provided by Dr. Lendon Smith)

** What's The Connection Between Fruits and Vegetables And Acid/Alkaline Imbalances? ***

* The naturopathic approach to losing weight is to put such a person on a raw vegetable diet -- not so much to avoid meat as to move the balance to the acidic side, or at least more neutral. * Fruits and vegetables in the body eventually become metabolized to vinegar (acetic acid) and hence promote the acidic trend.

** What Other Foods Tend To Acidify the Body? **

* Other foods that tend to Acidify the body include barley, oats, rice, whole wheat, prunes, asparagus, beans, and lentils. * A safe salt, ammonium chloride, is the salt of a weak base and a strong acid, so acts as an acidifier. It smells good to those alkaline people. The usual dose is one or two tablets (7 1/2 grains) two or three times a day.

** What Health Problems Appear When Our Bodies are Too Alkaline? **

* People with allergies and sensitivities are frequently alkaline. * Those with high blood pressure, migraine, backaches, spastic colon, and asthma are very likely to be suffering from alkalosis. * Doctors will write prescriptions for these people, but it would be better to try to correct the alkalinity first, and then the need for some of those toxi-molecular drugs would be necessary only occasionally, or at least until the chemistry has been corrected.

** What Changes Can We Expect When Our Chemistry Is More Acidic? **

* When people move to the acidic side of their metabolism, they usually find that the enzymes are now working optimally partly because the minerals are more soluble, * They feel better and even lose some unwanted weight. * Correcting the acid/base balance seems to allow normal function to return.
