Hypertension: The Silent Killer (Part one)

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

(From Chapter 14 of "Feed The Body Right" by Dr. Lendon Smith)

*In A Nutshell*

1. High blood pressure can be controlled by diet and nutrients.
2. The "unknown" causes of hypertension are really imbalances
in the ratios of the electrolytes and minerals in the bloodstream.
3. Climate, stresses, poor diet, and injuries can all trigger a
change in the delicate balance of the fluids and minerals causing
a change in our blood pressure readings.
4. A good blood pressure reading is 140 over 80.

*How Do We Measure Blood Pressure?*
The cutoff point for systolic pressure (the upper reading) has
been set at 140 mm of mercury. ...If the systolic pressure
climbs to 150 and especially 160 mm, the doctor usually
prescribes some drug that will reduce the systolic (upper
reading) pressure, but may not affect the diastolic (lower reading).

The diastolic pressure (the lower reading) is the amount of
consistent pressure expressed in mm or mercury that continues to
push the blood through the vessels in between the beats of the
heart. If it supposed to be around 80. Seventy-five to 85 is
about right. If that diastolic pressure is sustained above 90,
doctors get nervous and want to prescribe something, usually a
diuretic that removes sodium from the body. It does work, but it
also takes potassium from the system and potassium is the very
element that the body needs to keep the lower diastolic pressure
at that safe level around 80.

* Who is more susceptible to high blood pressure?*
These are the factors known to affect high blood pressure:
1. Age: Older people are more likely to have elevated pressure.
Fifty percent of the population over age 50 years probably has high blood pressure.
2. Race: African-Americans are more susceptible to hypertension.
3. Sex: Males are more likely to have elevated blood pressure.
4. Other causes include obesity, sodium sensitivity, alcohol
ingestion, oral contraceptives, and lack of exercise.

*What Causes High Blood Pressure in those who are susceptible to it?*
....The cause is unknown in 90 percent of the cases, hence
the name: "essential hypertension." We now know that these
"unknown" causes of hypertension are really imbalances in the
ratios of the electrolytes and minerals in the bloodstream.

*What Causes These Imbalances To Occur?*
Climate, stresses, poor diet, and injuries can all trigger a
change in the delicate balance of the fluids and minerals, and,
consequently some disease appears. If our genes make us
susceptible to high blood pressure then that disease can occur.

*Something to Think About*

Dr. Smith starts this chapter by saying that he would hope in
some small way to get the message out to the public that there
are better ways to control blood pressure, either high or low,
than just using drugs. There is no doubt, he continues, that
most all blood pressure abnormalities can be controlled with diet and supplements.

*In the next issue we will talk about two things*
1. A safe experiment for determining high blood pressure.
2. Foods and minerals that help to lower the blood pressure.

taking Noni Juice. Testimonies on high blood pressure can be found at:
