* The more lean muscle and aerobically competent you are, the more you burn calories while sitting still.

* Although young athletes have very well developed antioxidant defense systems, don't they still have to get the basic antioxidants from their diet to stimulate those defense systems?

* Copper, zinc, manganese and selenium support super oxide dismutase and glutathione peroxidase respectively. Both of these enzymes are potent antioxidant defense mechanisms.

* If one is eating a very refined diet, those trace elements might be lacking, and those antioxidant systems may not work as will to prevent oxidative stress to other areas in the body, which might lead eventually to chronic disease.

* An antioxidant fruit and vegetable diet with some extra C (1 to 2 grams) and E 100-800 IU) is good for young fit exercisers.

* Athletes should not overeat protein. It does not necessarily build more muscles.

* When exercising in hot weather, the body can lose a pound an hour in sweat. Athletes should drink at least eight ounces every hour. Even sedentary people need water: one ounce per body weight in kilograms. A 70-kilogram person should try to drink 70 ounces each day.
