When I first read that Preparation H is the item most often
shoplifted I thought it was a joke. But then there is an
explanation. We know that criminals as a general rule crave
dairy products and drink five times the amount of milk that
noncriminals drink. These milk addicts have a calcium deficiency
and are looking for that mineral to improve their metabolism.
However, they are sensitive to dairy products, and cannot absorb
the calcium from the cow juice as their intestines reject this
foreign protein. Dairy products are the most constipating food
we can eat. It has zero roughage. By the time the curd that
forms in the stomach gets to the colon and needs to be expelled,
it is just a small ball of dust, defying extrusion. The result?
Swollen veins around the nether opening, called hemorrhoids.

Criminals prefer to steal items they need. Preparation H is easy to slip into one's pocket.

Some milk drinkers will also get nose bleeds from their diet.
The explanation there might be that the straining at B.M. time opens
some capillaries in the nose. This may be a physics problem, not a sensitivity.
