*The How's and What Kinds of Amino Acids* (Part 3)
(Taken from Dr. Lendon Smith's writings.)
*Where Do We Get Our Amino Acids From?*
Some eight amino acids must be supplied by the diet. They are
called essential. The other 14-there may be more-can be
manufactured by the body from these eight. If these eight are not
supplied in the proper amounts, or there is some pathway block in
the protein synthesis, essential enzymes cannot be manufactured.
For example, L-tyrosine is an amino acid and needs iodine to
become thyroxin, the thyroid hormone. Without iodine there Is no
hormone; without tyrosine, there is no hormone. They are Interdependent.
*In What Form Do We Take Amino Acids?*
Capsules of amino acids are readily absorbed and will quickly
team up with the appropriate vitamins and minerals to be used to
duplicate the genetic code (as in cell division), to form
muscles, connective tissue, metabolize hormones, form enzymes,
and produce neurotransmitters. Once the machinery is operating
smoothly, these amino acid supplements can be discontinued and
sensible eating habits will maintain the physiology. Continued use is fine,
but can be expensive. They are utilized best if taken on an empty stomach.
*Will You Describe The Amino Acids and Tell Me How Much To Take?*
Threonine is important in fat metabolism, and is low in those on
a vegetarian diet. People who have little are often irritable,
hard to get along with. Suggested: 350 to 3,000 mg daily.
L-Glutamic Acid detoxifies ammonia, which is common in candida
sufferers. It aids brain metabolism, often controls symptoms of
hypoglycemia, and, thus, is a standby in the treatment of
alcoholism. L-Glutamine passes through the blood-brain barrier
and becomes L-Glutamic acid in the brain and is used as a fuel.
Suggested 500 to 2,000 mg. daily.
L-Carnitine will reduce some of the risk for elevated fats and
cholesterol in the blood. It can improve heart muscle exercise
tolerance as it facilitates the transport of fatty acids into the
energy center of the muscle cells. It can dilate the coronary
blood vessels and even lower blood pressure. L-Lysine and
L-Methionine will produce L-Carnitine, but an enzyme malfunction
may not allow enough to be manufactured. Suggested: 350 to 1,000 mg daily between meals.
L-Pbenylalanine is a precursor to L-Tyrosine, which in turn makes
L-Dopa and ultimately becomes dopamine and norepinephrine and
epinephrine. They are all considered stimulants; they elevate
mood and make one more alert and ambitious. Depression-prone
people might find this cheaper and safer than taking mood
elevating drugs. It also curbs appetite as it releases
cholecystokinin, which subdues the foraging center of the brain.
Suggested: 300 to 2,000 mg daily between meals.
Taurine is most important for those prone to heart problems. It
has regulatory effect on membrane excitability of heart muscle
and nerve cells, and on the central nervous system as well.
Suggested: 200 to 1,000 mg daily between meals.
Trytophan is the precursor to serotonin, which minimizes the
brain's reaction to the stressors in the environment. It calms
anxiety, lifts depression, and counteracts insomnia. It also
reduces vulnerability to heart diseases. It can act as an
appetite control; it decreases the desire for carbohydrates.
Vitamin C, B6, and B3 are necessary to convert tryptophan to serotonin.
("It is possible that some overweight or depressed people over
consume dietary carbohydrates, using these foods as though they
were antidepressant drugs to increase their serotonin levels."
Richard Wurtman, M.D., 1987.) Suggested: 500 to 1,500 mg daily.
*What About Taking Amino Acid Blends?*
Along with these special ones for the specific problems, doctors
usually have their patients take amino acid blends containing the
twenty-one or twenty-two amino acids daily to prevent an
imbalance. Suggested: 300 to 700 mg daily between meals.

*Shameless Promotion By Your Sponsors*
It is now possible to grow hair without using unsafe products.
They say if the follicles are not dead then their new hair
rejuvenation product will grow hair.
There are five components to this program. All five contain noni juice as their base.
* A complete protein powder which provides all your amino acids
for your meal replacement
* An extremely high fiber supplement helps suppress the appetite.
* Four capsules of vitamins, amino acids, and digestants - each
capsule designed to dissolve at a certain ph
* Concentrated xeronine - It speeds up your metabolism. Put 4
drops in your drink and increase your absorption of protein -
and speed up the rate of caloric burning.
* Noni juice protein wafers which will keep your blood sugar
levels stable and reduce sugar cravings and fatigue.
We have a small newspaper handout that tells all about this
program. We will be in California next two weeks (Sept. 8 until
Sept. 21) visiting our son so if you want that handout send
mailing address and phone to his email address. JimMc1257@aol.com
