Greetings! We have now finished our traveling and are in Venice,
Fl for the winter. We had an interesting trip as we traveled from
Texas through the states of Louisiana, Missippi, and Alabama. To
avoid the winds and rain of the hurricane we took route 20 which
took us about 100 miles north of the Gulf Coast. All along the
way at motels, welcome centers, and restaurants we talked with
hordes of people who had come north to wait out the hurricane.
The day the storm hit land we were in Montgomery, Alabama. From
there we cut across the state to Georgia to I-75 - again to avoid
the winds and rain. In our travels we saw caravans of electric
utility trucks and telephone trucks obviously on their way to
help out their neighboring states who had been hit by the storm.
And now it is nice once again to be sharing with you thoughts
about what is happening in the field of alternative health.

*What Was Originally Considered To Be The Cause of Autism?*
For decades the official theory was that the child acted this way
because s/he was saddled with a cold mother and an absent father.
The child retreated to an inner world that is safe if the
diagnosis is made early in life (usually by age two years) and
the treatment is begun early and vigorously.
*What Do They Now Say Causes Autism?*
The increase in the incidence of autism is real. It can be
explained by the increased use of antibiotics, vaccinations, and pollution.
A large number of cases of autism in Leominster, Mass was found
to be related to toxic waste being dumped nearby. Bernard
Rimland, PhD: Vol. 9, #3, 1995. The problem dealing with
autistic children is that the symptoms and behavioral signs that
suggest the diagnosis can also be seen with lead, mercury, and
other heavy metal intoxication. Some of the symptoms are seen in
children who have food or pollution sensitivities. Sometimes
petit mal epilepsy will mimic autism. Some autistic children are
mislabeled as hyperactive children with attention deficit

*What Supplements Help Autistic Children?*
For six hyperkinetic children, 50 mg. of Pyridoxine helped
control their unacceptable behavior. Melvyn , M.D.
B6 and magnesium help control some autistic behavior. (There is
an increase in B6 deficiency diseases also carpal tunnel, kidney
stones, PMS.) When large doses of B6 (300 to 600 mg daily) are
used, the body needs magnesium, so when Dr. Rimland added it in
doses of about 300 to 500 mgs. a day, improvement followed. The
supplements allow the autistic brain to get the message that the
outside world is not so bad, and it is fun to relate to the
