*** What Treatments Work For Alzheimer’s? ***
from the notes of by Dr. Lendon Smith, M.D.This issue is a continuation of the review Dr. Smith did of the book by Dr. H. Richard Casodorph and Dr. Morton Walker. called Toxic Metal Syndrome: How Metal Poisoning can Affect Your Brain. (Avery Pub. Group, Garden City, NY, 1995)
The authors made studies of the brains of a number of patients who had been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease, stroke, or transient ischemic attacks. Their conclusion:
Some forms of dementia respond positively to IV chelation therapy. * It seems best to treat it in the early stages of the disease - when forgetfulness has not slipped into confusion. * The last stage of total dementia is resistant to therapy. * They figure that six million IV drips have gone into one million patients by 1,000 physicians.
* What kinds of results do people get from chelation? * The benefits of mental and physical functioning have been assayed scientifically, and are not just anecdotal reports from the patients whom, we are told, cannot be trusted. But if an avid golfer cannot even tee up for the first hole, gets 20 IV chelations, and then can play 18 holes, doesn’t that count for something?
* Does chelation work for everybody? * This method does not work on all patients. Fifty percent response is pretty good, when you consider there is nothing else.
* Are we blessed or are we victims? * If the aluminum industry, the lead smelters, the pharmaceutical industry that pushes iron for anyone who is tired, and the dental profession think that mercury fillings are safe, it makes one wonder: Are we the beneficiaries of modern metal technology or the victims?
* What other natural remedies work for Alzheimer's? * The authors suggest one can try some natural remedies such as ginkgo biloba, the B complex and vitamin C, along with some zinc. It is called oral chelating. Dr. Smith ssays that he has learned that most of us become more alkaline as we age. The aluminum molecule becomes smaller in an alkaline medium and more easily passes through the blood-brain barrier. On the other hand, our friend zinc, which helps the brain heal and tends to replace these bad metals, becomes larger with age and alkalinity, so finds its passage into the brain more difficult. There are safe acidifiers that will slow this sludging up of the brain and the coronary vessels.
There are M.D.'s who are trained and have the credentials for this safe procedure.
