** What Alternative Approaches Might One Use For Diabetes? ** (Part Two)
Taken from Dr. Lendon M. Smith's notes of report by Jack Challem, June 7, 1997: New Hope for Diabetics (The Nutrition Reporter, Jack Challem, 6782 SW 167 Pl., Beaverton OR, 97007)
*** What Might One Do For Diabetes? ***
* What About Sugar? * Sugar itself may hold the key to aging in diabetics as well as non-diabetics. Senile cataracts, arthritis are seen early in diabetics. Reduced caloric intake extends the lifespan.
* What Might The Diet Be? * The diet should be high in complex carbohydrates, vegetables and whole grains, and low in fats and proteins. However, a high fat diet of the essential fatty acids may be better than carbos. Patients on the American Diabetic Assoc. high-carbohydrate diet had a 30 percent increase in blood tryglycerides and a nine-percent decrease in HDL cholesterol. These put them at risk for heart disease. Coulston suggested the ideal diet: 40 to 45 % carbohydrates, 15 to 20 % protein, and 25 to 40 percent fat. (Safflower and olive) And less dairy and meat fat.
* Is There A Relationship Between Diabetes and Diet? * Dennis Burkitt noted little diabetes among the natives of East Africa, because of the high fiber diet and little sugar. Diabetes has a genetic component, but the diet can keep it from becoming manifest. After the Western diet was begun in a primitive society on the island of Nauru (near Borneo) 40% of the population developed diabetes. Same with the Pima Indians of Southern Arizona: 50% of the Pimas over age 35 have type II diabetes. Their primitive diet was mesquite pods, acorns, yellow and white tepary beans, lima beans, and the local corn. These desert plants have large quantities of amylose, a starch that is absorbed slowly.
* What Can Help Control Diabetes? * * Vitamins and minerals can help control diabetes. * Magnesium deficiency may be a factor in high blood pressure among nondiabetics and diabetics. Magnesium is necessary for glucose transport and is part of numerous enzymes involved in glucose metabolism. Diabetics with retinopathy had lower blood levels of magnesium compared with diabetics with no retinopathy. A low magnesium diet led to the most and the thickest fat deposits in the blood vessels. (rabbits) * Increased platelet aggregation is common in diabetics, but can be improved with vitamin E. Platelets from diabetics produce increased quantities of thromboxane A2, which increase the stickiness. With E supplements the thromboxins production was reduced. Also helps with retinopathy and peripheral neuropathy. It can control the spread of gangrene. * Vitamin B3, the niacin form, will cut the cholesterol level. Type I diabetics were given niacin and 3/7 did not need insulin. It slowed the destruction of insulin-producing cells in the pancreas. * Chromium helps insulin metabolize sugar. 200 micrograms of chromium daily lowered the sugar levels 50%. Chromium picolinate was the compound used. Fasting blood sugar decreased by 24 %, LDL cholesterol decreased 11 %. Helped nondiabetics also. * Vitamin C, B6, copper, manganese, selenium, and zinc will also help.

*** Noni juice Is A Great Worldwide Money-Making Opportunity ***
The following is an excerpt from one of Kelly Olsen's emails.
We are now a $300 million/year company. If we would have told industry experts 3 years ago that we would be at this level before our 3rd anniversary, they would have thought we were nuts. We are at the same position today. If we tell you that we will be at $1 billion/year in wholesale volume before our 6th birthday, will you think we are nuts? You see, it is always a matter of looking into the future and with your vision, anticipate growth. Most people spend their time looking in the rear view mirror.
