Hello once again. Thought you would be interested in hearing some additional comments on Alzheimers that Dr. Lendon Sith emailed to me.

"My understanding is that if one cooks acidic foods in aluminum pots or pans, it could leach out the aluminum from that material. I also understand that as we age, and many of us are aging, we become more alkaline, and alkalinity makes the aluminum a smaller molecule and has easier ingress into the brain. It is counteracted by zinc, which becomes larger with age and alkalinity, so it cannot help to balance the effects of aluminum. It is interesting that despite the deposits of aluminum in the brain of those diagnosed with Alzheimer's the Alzheimer's Assoc. feel that aluminum is only a contaminant, like cholesterol in the blood vessels.

Today's issue is for all of us. It is an overview of what Dr. Smith has learned from his many years as an M.D. I think you will find it tremendously interestesting and valuable advice. My husband and I have learned the very same things in our 23 years in the alternative health field.

** How About Exercise, Culture, and Intellectual Growth? **

* Get into some sport that suits your body build. * Have friends that support your life style. * Stay away from drugs, tobacco and booze. Some day you can drink some red wine, but grape juice will give you the important phytochemicals; * Take music, art, dance, or vocal lessons; these help to organize your thinking and improves your coordination. * Make sure your parents take you to concerts: opera, Gilbert and Sullivan, the symphony, band concerts; * Keep a diary. Writing about feelings releases stress. (Some day it will evolve into a book.) * People who continue to be active intellectually can actually improve their I.Q. * Do crossword puzzles. * Learn and use a new word daily; * If school is a bummer, talk your parents into home schooling. * It encourages the brain to seek solutions and reasons why things happen the way they do. After all, the purpose of education is to create a higher sense of the possible. * Schooling should help the student recognize that new options are possible. A computer or a set of encyclopedias is a must.

** What About Spiritual and Emotional Growth? **

* Join a church. * Have faith in something. Gandhi said, "We are one human race; don't let religion divide us." * Have friends and lovers. * People need to be needed. Without the fact of being needed, they feel walled off and inconsequential; * Talk your folks into getting you a pet --- even goldfish. Pet ownership may have real effects on health and longevity as it lowers stress reactions and anxiety; Tell jokes. * Humor might save your life.
