** The Relationship Between Obesity and Our Body Type **
(Taken From the Notes of Dr. Lendon Smith)* So What If I Am Overweight? *
Does it matter? Obesity is probably the number one health concern in America as it is a precursor to many other conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, and even some forms of cancer. I am also sure it is connected to many cases of depression; you cannot be overweight in this country today without suffering some feelings of discomfort. (You might get depressed because you are fat, or you might get fat because you are depressed.)
* What Makes Some of Us Overweight? *
Could it be your genes? Yes, the genetic influence is more obvious in body weight than in most other health problems. What might you do if it is your genes? You could change your life style and diet and that would help to prevent your fat genes from appearing or at least, minimize their effects.
* What is the Relationship Between Our Weight and Our Body Type? *
Have you heard of endomorphs? ectomorphs? and mesomorphs? This was a biotyping theory of Dr. William Sheldon. He noted that some people had a short -- 20 feet -- of bowel, while others had a whopping 40 feet.
What are endomorphs? Dr. Sheldon noted that in all cases where the intestines were long, the bodies of the owners were fat and had short tapering fingers and full lips. He called them endomorphs. He concluded that these people had efficient digestive and absorptive mechanisms, which enabled them to utilize most, if not all, of the foods they consumed.
The ones with short intestines had long thin fingers and narrow lips; he called them ectomorphs. He theorized that although they often ate a lot they nevertheless absorbed nutrients poorly because of the short gut-length.
What did he call mesomorphs? These are the muscular types and had medium length intestines, moderately full lips and fingers. Their intestinal tracts were moderately efficient.
An efficient intestine -- such as in those endomorphs with the 40 feet of bowel -- tends to allow fuel to be absorbed evenly and burned at a very slow rate. People who inherited this kind of digestive apparatus tend to get fat, and thus require more Spartan eating habits than individuals who have shorter, less efficient, intestines.
Dr. Smith says that Noni juice helps whatever is going on in our body to improve.
