*** Osteoporosis and Calcium Assimilation Problems (Part Two) ***
(Content provided by Dr. Lendon Smith and edited by Dorothy McDonald)
** How does a lack of calcium absorption happen? **
* If the parathyroid glands are stimulated, calcium is pulled from the bones to balance the blood. Too little thyroxin will lead to poor absorption of calcium from the intestines. Too much thyroxin will cause bone loss. * Chronic stress leads to adrenal overactivity and calcium loss. * The vast majority of a woman's estrogen is derived from these adrenal hormones. Estrogen and progesterone both promote bone health. Normal healthy young women have abnormal menstrual periods and absence of ovulation due to progesterone deficiency.
Who Experiences a Greater Risk of a Problem With Calcium Absorption?
* Women who always had regular menstrual cycles were found to have greater spinal bone density than women who experienced frequent irregularities in their periods. * At greatest risk were women with severe menstrual irregularities and low body weight. * In addition a woman is at risk for hip fracture if she experiences low bone density plus any of the following factors. * advancing age, * any fracture since age 50, * shorter or lighter than at age 25, * caffeine intake, * poor distant depth perception, * little exercise, * a smoker. * need to use arms to rise from chair, * mother had a hip fracture, * hyperthyroidism, * use of tranquilizers, * a pulse of more than 80 resting, * poor self-rated health, * stands on feet less than four hours a day, * use of an anticonvulsant drug,
** What is needed to improve calcium absorption? **
* Just taking calcium is not enough --- no new bone. Add zinc, manganese, and copper at least, but the full supplementation including calcium citrate, zinc, manganese, copper, and vitamin D is the best plan.
** What About Estrogen Therapy? **
* Estrogen drugs merely halt bone loss and only in some 75% of all women using them. * Estrogen therapy plus a general broad supplement gained an eleven percent increase in trabecular bone mass. * Women have two main hormones that start to disappear at menopause, not just estrogen. * Dr. John R. Lee used transdermal natural progesterone cream, diet, nutritional supplementation and mild exercise. Over three years, vertebral bone mass gained an average of 15 percent, and no new fractures.
** What about progesterone deficiency after menopause? **
Progesterone deficiency after menopause is a major factor in the development of osteoporosis. The body in the production of progesterone uses Vitamin A. Therefore Vitamin A supplementation will offer considerable protection against osteoporosis, and also against aging of the skin.

* Why Is Noni juice Able To Help So Many Different Conditions? *
The following answer is taken from page 33 of the booklet NONI Through Your Body, by Steven M. Hall, M.D.
Noni is a very rich source of the building blocks of a recently recognized nutritional requirement - xeronine. Many aspects of modern life diminish our own natural ability to make xeronine. Without adequate levels of xeronine, our bodies canit precisely regulate their biochemical reactions or cellular communications. Because our cellular processes are so interdependent, an array of bodily processes then break down. The benefits of Noni go so deeply into out body - improving the quality of the biochemical reactions and cellular functioning - that I would suggest if you have any health issue at all, give the Noni ninety days.
